In 2016 Ron Baldwin, a local Caller, had a dream ... to start his very own club. With the support of his wife, Jan, they began to make the dream a reality - renting the Norfield Grange Hall in Weston, CT and launching their first class of 13 'bear cubs'.
Their Spring, 2017 graduation was followed by a second class in 2018. These two classes provided the critical mass to allow us to become a member-run club on October 24, 2018. Since then we've graduated classes in 2019, 2020 and 2023.
Success stories like this could not have happened without their commitment, dedication, and support. We will always be grateful to them (our Mama Bear and Papa Bear), both of whom continue to be our inspiration, cheerleaders, and guiding lights.
"I am really quite proud of the Square Bears. Since our first 'Fun Night' we have grown from 0 to 31 members ... a friendly, delightfu, socialble group who truly enjoy each other's company.
They laugh, are mutually supportive, and maintain a postive attitude ... even when a square 'breaks down'. I am blessed to be their Caller, and to have them on our continuing journey."
"I love these guys! When we put out the call for people to come and give square dancing a try, I never dreamed we could be so lucky.
I can't imagine a nicer group of people: friendly, kind, interesting, full of fun and laughter, and (most of all) willing to try something new and learn. I am proud of how far they've come, and privileged to call them my friends."
